Police drop a case of theft of charcoal against our team leader and others

Police have dropped a case of theft of charcoal against our team leader Mr. Amanzuru .L. William and others, the case related to a community action that occurred on 30 January 2021 in Adjumani town, where locals impounded a Kampala bound trucks ferrying Illigal Charcoal was registered at Adjumani Central Police station by owners of the impounded charcoal.

On his last reporting to police on the matter, Amanzuru, was told that he has no case to answer effectively vindicating him of the alleged theft of 270 bags of the said charcoal, we are pleased upon receiving this news and continue to ask all stakeholders to recognise works of environmental right defenders and human rights activists.

The case of Amanzuru and his colleagues at Friends of Zoka, is one among many examples of works of human right activists being criminalised, they are among others being harrased, face physical threats, threats of arrests and threats to life in the line of duty, we ask all to protect those who speak for the less privileged members in the society.
